Stumpf’s Racing Diary: Collegiate Nationals Criterium

Checking in with us again on his way to today’s team time trial is Bob Stumpf of Pitt Cycling describing yesterday’s collegiate nationals criterium.

The D1 men’s crit started at 6:15 and fortunately for us that was probably the nicest part of the day. Andy, Nik and I decided that since we were so close to the course we would warm up in the hotel and roll over to the start all 15 minutes before the start time. We got there with enough time to watch the last two laps of the Men’s D2 Crit. It definitely pumped me up watching Mesa State have a lead out train. The call ups were announced and soon after 120 collegiate cyclists were off. It was a simple 4 corner crit with enough room for 15 cyclists to take it side by side. It was super stressful. Tons of bumping and shoulder brushing. I worked my way to the front and someone managed to stay there or close by. The hour went by so fast. I ended up finishing 14th. In hindsight I think I took too much wind in the last lap. Andy finished like 50th and Nik like 60th. We are all super stoked for the TTT. Keep it real.
